They Are Lying To You

If you use anti-virus or other anti-malware scanning software on your computer, it has been telling you lies. Each time the software alerts you to an “intrusion” related to cookies from website, it is deceiving you in an apparent effort to ensure you keep using the software.

Cookies, or more specifically tracking cookies written by web sites, are not inherently malicious and a fundamental web technology. First introduced in pre-release versions of Netscape in 1994, they are small text files stored on your computer, and are only visible to the web sites that created them. They are not viruses. They are not malware. They do not slow down your computer.

Without the use of cookie technology it would be impossible for your favorite web sites to remember you and your preferences each time you visit, without the use of a log-in process at each visit. The most common use of cookies by web sites is to assign you a unique random ID that correlates to your preferences which are stored in the site’s database, then place that non-personal ID in the cookie. This way, everything from Twitter to Amazon is significantly more user-friendly.

Cookies In Advertising

Third-party advertising networks use the cookie so that they see you as a repeat visitor on the sites for which they serve ads. If they serve ads on site-a.com, they use the non-personal identifier in your cookie as a means to retain which ads you’ve seen. Then, when you brows to site-b.com (on which they also serve ads), the ad network recognizes you, and continues to deliver a mixture of ads. Part of this process involves some level of retaining the sites visited so as to intelligently select ads that may be of interest to you.

The profiling, referred to as behavioral targeting, is one of the primary reasons privacy advocates are concerned. While there’s good reason to be concerned, no one has provided an actual case of where the profiling and targeting of online advertising has resulted in a problematic invasion of privacy, or inappropriate use of the profile data. Since the cookie contains no personal data, and the ad networks do not collect personal data, the targeting profile has no idea who you really are.

We Need A Logical Solution

Banner advertising on the Internet is far from perfect, and often irritating. But then, so are the little cards in magazines, billboards on the highways, and poorly produced TV commercials. While imperfect and irksome as it is, the advertising banners are currently the most common method by which content web sites can create revenue, and advertisers can reach select groups of online users.

No one will argue that we need strict controls regarding the collection and use of data which is the result of your web browsing. Ethical business practices tend to become widespread only after legislative action. However, Representative Boucher’s proposed legislation is akin to repairing a slightly rotted wallboard with liberal amounts of gasoline and a flame-thrower.

Search giant Google is looking to consolidate its position in terms of the mobile internet market, it seems from recent acquisitions.

The company is renowned for its policy of swallowing up what it considers to be interesting start-ups, with a view to increasing its already impressive portfolio. Not just search any more, the Mountain-View California based corporation is in the process of becoming a force to be reckoned with in many other markets, and its acquisitions list runs to 59 companies in everything from mobile software to VoIP and video since 2001.

Most recently, it has announced its intention to acquire AdMob, an advertising company founded four years ago which sells adverts designed to run on mobile phones; a move the US Regulator the FTC has asked for more information on. Prior to this buy-up, the FTC took four months to approve Google’s purchase of DoubleClick, another internet advertising company.

And now Google has its sights set on Yelp, a local business reviews site. The services offered by Yelp, being local, integrate logically with the increasing amounts of location awareness applications for mobile phones. Google has not traditionally been strong in the area of local recommendations and local advertising, especially in the mobile world – and with recommendation and social networking sites on the increase, Yelp will provide Google with an excellent foothold in this sector.

The N97 is known for having memory problems, the RAM that Nokia put on this device is just not enough for the capability this device has. However, Nokia is conscious that the lack of RAM is a problem and they have been trying to fix it with software updates, memory patches and now this app called ”Memory Reorganizer.”

Today I checked the ”SW Update” app in my Nokia N97 and a new ”Memory Reorganizer” update was available. I installed the app and then checked if the memory had increased. It didn’t, because this is an actual app that you have to run. After you download the Memory Reorganizer from the SW Update app, you will find the app in the Applications folder. When you run it, a warning tells you that you won’t be able to use the device while the memory is reorganizing. I thought it was going to be a long process; it just lasted like 5 seconds. I see that the memory increased a mere 2MB. After the app finishes ”reorganizing” it removes itself from the N97. How many Mbs did the Memory Reorganizer free on your Nokia N97?

Update: Some users are reporting up to 6MB freed by the Memory Reorganizer app, the normal memory freed, however, is around the 3-4MBs.

Something that Nokia users have been waiting for a long time

are Skype Video Calls. To be able to use the front camera on S60 devices to have a video call with someone using a PC, MAC or another S60 device. Today, this is actually possible!

Fring just released version 4.0 of their amazing native Skype client for Nokia devices. Currently, it is only available for: Nokia 5800, Nokia X6, Nokia N97 and N97 Mini, and non touch devices: N82, N95 and N95 8GB. This time, 4.0 supports Skype Video calls. This means you can video call someone just like you would on a PC! I already tried it and works very well. I am totally amazed by this new feature from Fring, is totally amazing to see this on a mobile phone.

Lets also remember that S60 devices are the first mobile devices to get this feature, and even though there is a Fring app for the iPhone, it does not have a second front camera.

To install Fring and start using video calls on your Nokia device head here: Fring. Although just a few devices are compatible, try the 4.0 Fring on your device and leave a comment if Video calling works with it!

Via: Fring

Compatible With: Nokia N97, Nokia N97 Mini, Nokia 5800, Nokia X6, Nokia N82, Nokia N95 and Nokia N95 8GB.

If you have a Nokia device with a built-in GPS, you will notice that Google Maps gets your location ten times faster than Nokia Maps. It is unknown the reason for this, but what we do know is how to fix it. The device uses a server to get your location faster. Google Maps uses a different server than Nokia, a server that is possibly faster, much faster. The trick is basically changing the default Nokia location server that the device uses to geotag pics, or just place you in the map, for the Google Server.

Changing the server is really easy. You just have to replace the ”Server Address” from supl.nokia.com to supl.google.com The hard part is finding that setting which is hidden on most Nokia phones. It will vary from phone to phone, on the Nokia N97 you have to find the ”Location” icon, then click on ”Landmarks” then ”Options” then ”Positioning Settings” and finally ”Positioning Server,” just change it to the Google server which is the address: supl.google.com. Leave a comment if you notice that the GPS locks faster! So far I can tell that it does lock a bit faster.

“WTF!?” that’s the same I thought. I live in Europe, and all I got when I tried was a voice that said “The content is currently unavailable”

I think I found a way around this:

First go to Google and search proxy list I found this site samair.ru. What you need is to change your proxy. Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Connections -> settings.
then click on manual proxy configuration. Now you can see the video no matter where you are in the world.

This is the video.

I was the normal cub. I loved (and still love) GI Joe and Transformers.

When Optimus Prime died * wipes single thug tear * it messed me up!

When he came back as Zombimus Prime to kill off the rest of the Autobots? Like Charlie Murphy says:

“it f’d up my belief system.” But you know I had to bring it to perspective because they were ROBOTS after all! You can turn a 40 foot ROBOT on and off (even those that have been living for millions of years).

What made me give up my pure childhood innocence and made me become the free-thinking military huey freeman was when I saw Serpentor straighten out a cobra and javelin tossed it into Duke’s appendix in the GI Joe movie! After all of the bombs, missiles, hand-to-hand, and random red and blue lasers not ever touching NONE of them, the only thing that gets Duke is this magical snake staff? Too much for me! If anybody finds a clip of that on the innanet, let me know.
